Huntington Building
Preservation Studios worked with Home Leasing to take the Huntington Building from likely demolition to complete rehabilitation, serving as a mix of supportive housing for formerly homeless veterans and affordable housing. Under our guidance to accurately reconstruct the mansard roof level, the necessary unit count was possible making the project financially feasible. The project utilized LIHTCs as well, requiring the design to also be compliant with NYS HCR guidelines in addition to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.

The building was originally constructed for the National Yeast Company in October 1870 and went through several additions / expansions beginning in 1871 and continuing through the late 19th century through c.1950. The company patented and sold dry yeast cakes, which they manufactured here from 1870 until their closure in 1891. The factory remained vacant until the Iroquois Motor Car Company purchased the building in 1905 and began manufacturing automobiles onsite. Fred L. Huntington purchased the building in 1928 for use as an auto dealership, and it remained in service as such until 2018. It was during this period of the building's history in the 1950s when the mansard roof four floor level burned and was removed.
Preservation Studios facilitated the complete historic tax credit application process, including the National Register listing.
