St. Joseph's Hospital

St. Joseph’s Hospital was designed and constructed between ca. 1897 and 1983 by the Diocese of Providence. As the longest-serving Catholic hospital in the history of Rhode Island, the hospital represents a rare remaining collection of highly intact buildings that provided healthcare to the Catholic community and the population of Providence as a whole. Additionally, the buildings retain many elements of American healthcare design from the early / mid-twentieth century, reflecting advances in building technologies that served the various patients and staff during a period of rapid urban growth and industrialization.
